Ramadan Hosting Timeline: How to Prepare for Iftar in the UAE

Hosting iftar should feel generous, not rushed. A simple timeline lets you welcome guests with ease while keeping the table polished and practical.

Seven days before: plan the gathering

Confirm guest numbers, dietary needs and whether dinner will be served family-style or as a buffet. Choose a restrained palette—ivory, sand, sage or burgundy—and build the setting around dinnerware you already love.

Three days before: prepare the tableware

  • Count dinner plates, bowls, glasses and cutlery.
  • Select platters for dates, starters and the main course.
  • Prepare Arabic coffee cups and a serving tray.
  • Wash linens and polish glassware.

Mixing pieces is perfectly acceptable when one colour or material connects them. Explore the Medina Collection for warm, hand-painted character or browse Selene for a softer neutral look.

The day before: style without clutter

Set out non-perishable pieces, place serving dishes where they will be used and keep the centre of the table low enough for conversation. Use one focal element—flowers, lanterns or a sculptural bowl—rather than several competing decorations.

Two hours before: create an easy flow

Arrange water, dates and soup first. Keep hot dishes close to the kitchen and reserve a separate station for tea, gahwa and sweets. This prevents congestion once guests arrive.

Just before Maghrib

Dim harsh lighting, light unscented candles if appropriate and place dates and water within every guest’s reach. The goal is a table that feels thoughtful while allowing everyone to break their fast comfortably.

Luhpar tip: prepare one empty platter and extra bowls for last-minute dishes. That small detail makes hosting feel effortless.
